CRITICAL RESOURCES ON COLLECTIVE VIOLENCE AND MEMORY, CULTURAL TRAUMA
AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION

Grounding our understanding of human behavior and the correlation between “normalization” and “conformity” to those acts that condone collective violence or those that celebrate cultural achievements are behaviors that are categorically definable among the complex processes we call socialization.  How do “social norms” come into being and why do they exist?  What is the relationship between normative beliefs and behaviors that foster collective peace or conflict and mass violence?  The links to resources in this section provide background and developments in critical theory and research that help us to understand the roots of collectively destructive behaviors as well as catalytic creative responses.
